How to create an expiry
Create a new expiry to start tracking a deadline, license, contract, or renewal.
What is it
An expiry is the core record in ExpiryEdge - a single deadline, license, certificate, contract, permit, or any other date-bound obligation you need to stay on top of. Every other feature (types, templates, reminders, workflows, directory links) exists to organize, enrich, or automate around expiry records.
Why / when to use it
Steps- Use it any time you have something with a date attached that matters if you miss it - a renewal, a compliance deadline, a subscription, an insurance policy, an employee certification.
- Centralizing these in ExpiryEdge (instead of spreadsheets, calendar entries, or someone's memory) is what makes reminders, workflows, and reporting possible in the first place - nothing else in the app works without an expiry record behind it.
- From the sidebar, go to Expirations (the top item under the Expirations section - this is also your home dashboard list).
- Click the + New Expiry button in the top right.
- Fill in the required fields: Name, Type, and Expiry Date (with time and timezone if relevant).
- Optionally set Priority (Low/Medium/High), a Value and Currency, or a Penalty Amount if missing the deadline has a cost.
- Add Notes, an external URL, or attach files under Attachments.
- Assign an owner, add notification Contacts, or link a Directory entry (vendor/contact) if relevant.
- If this deadline repeats, turn on Recurring and set the interval (day/month/year) - see the recurring expiries article for details.
- Click Save to create the expiry. It now appears in your Expirations list and on the Calendar.
