Where should this file go? Attachments vs. Documents vs. Directory
Three places files can live in ExpiryEdge, each suited to a different scope.
What is it
File storage in ExpiryEdge is scoped at three different levels: a single expiry, a broader folder structure, or a reusable entity record.
Why / when to use it
- Use per-expiry Attachments when a file belongs to exactly one deadline (e.g. the signed contract for that specific renewal) - it's the simplest option and keeps the file tightly bound to that record.
- Use Documents (the Drive-style folder manager) when you need broader organization spanning multiple expiries - e.g. a client or project folder containing several related contracts, correspondence, and reference material together.
- Use the Directory for files that belong to an entity rather than a single event - e.g. a vendor's master service agreement that applies across many of their contracts, attached once to their Directory record instead of duplicated on every related expiry.
- These aren't mutually exclusive - an expiry can have its own attachment and also appear inside a Documents folder and be linked to a Directory entry, all at once.
